The Wheelin Sportsman hunters are a group of hunters all over the US who is apart of the NWTF. These hunters have some sort of disability ranging from total limb loss to just prosthetics. Here in our community in NC we have had to privilege of hosting 2 hunts per year, one in Sept. and one in Dec. This is the most fun weekend of all hunting season in my book. To witness these hunters who don't get the chances we get everyday to hunt is a blessing.
The hunters usually arrive around noon on the first day, get settled in ad make sure their guns on on line. We have lunch then its off to the stand. Fri night we usually cook deer burgers/hamburgers, and hot dogs, and just fellowship with all the hunters and all the guides, and hopefully we are skinning deer that night.
Sat am we cook breakfast go hunting and then its back to the lodge to share stories of the morning hunt, we fish in the ponds, ride on the golf carts and bad boy buggies, and just have a good time until its time to go back to the woods.
Sat night is the big night. Throughout the year we are busy getting sponsors, and donations and we give away door prizes and lots of really nice stuff. We cook a big pig, some boston buts, hang out by the fire and listen to a live bluegrass band.
This is an amazing experience for everyone. You really learn to appreciate what we have and the opportunities we have as hunters to share the outdoors with people who love it just as much as we do, but don't get the chance to hunt because of their situation.
